“The Root of Good Health”

Documentary ScreeninGs

April 22-May 1, 2026

Launched in March 2022, the Healthy Opportunities Pilot (HOP) was a groundbreaking initiative instituted in North Carolina. Funded through a private-public partnership, the program addressed pillars of health outside of the doctor’s office: transportation, healthy foods, affordable housing, and more.

Patients have reported dramatic results of success, including stories of lifesaving turnarounds. The Healthy Opportunities pilot was intended to last five years. However, without a state budget for the 2025-2027 biennium, all HOP services ended on July 1, 2025.

That’s why Beacon Media, Carolina Forward and Resource Rural, which is shifting narratives around rural federal investments across the country, partnered on this short documentary to highlight these important issues and this vital program for the future of working people in North Carolina.

We would love to see you at one of our upcoming screenings!
